Why does this always happens to me? Why does this always happens to me?

I'm an alright player, not exceptional, but not that poor neither. I've played a lot online (mostly on playing chips), but this is my only second stab at playing live. So my last session at the casino (which is my 2nd attempt) playing 200NL, I fail miserably AGAIN. For both sessions, this and last time, I was doing pretty good in the beginning, I was up 200 or so around 2 hours into the game. However, as I continued to play longer maybe a couple more hours, there's ALWAYS that ONE GAME, a badbeat that cost you majority or all of your chips. Not that I played poorly, but there are situations where you just gotta have to wager/call that kind of amount. I walked out with no regrets because I know I have played correctly, but it left me to wonder.. Is this what's Poker? Badbeats like this are inevitable and that I'll just have to know when to quit when I have made an adequate amount?

This is a very important topic. So important in fact that 2+2 created a forum specifically for this type of question named "Beats, Brags, and Variance" found somewhere under "Beginners Questions". This forum is very helpful for providing insight into how to handle those crazy live bad beats. For them to be the most helpful you will need to provide details of the hand, specifically what crazy hand vil turned up with in the end.

No they are not inevitable, but they are common. It is the nature of the game.

Quitting when you have made $x is a huge leak. The amount you win/lose in one session should not affect you. This is why BRM is such a big deal.
