Normally stack sizes. Whichever game is deeper stacked is the bigger game. Not possible to accurately describe strategies as if everyone is 20 BB it plays very differently than if everyone is 200+ BB.

I would add that players play tighter ranges pre as you move up. Not necessarily more aggressive preflop though, but certainly postflop. Playing tight is usually right, especially in plo.

I assume you mean 1-2 with a 5 bring in .. not a three-blind game .. eh?

The table stakes change from 1-2 ($100-500) to 2-5 ($200-1000) to 5-5 ($500-2500) and will depend on the casino, but I think you know this already. In our area lots of Players are pushing for Match games and usually the 1-3 and 5-10 stakes are a Match The Stack game.

I LOVE the 5-5 Rock game at Aria .. or anywhere else the Rock is used as a 'free Winner's Straddle'

As far as where you should play .. that is your style and Bankroll dependent! I typically find that the lowest stake games have plenty of action and are easier to beat than the higher stake games. But if your Bankroll (or your brain, for the thrill of it) wants to play deeper then go for it for sure.

I will use Rivers Casino in Chicago as an example .. The 1/2 PLO (100-500) has great action and weak Players. I've run up 5k-6k stacks there a few times. The 5-5 (300-1000) game is full of 'gamblers' who are just looking to get it in along with a few nut peddlers who just love to snipe. PLUS you have to pay $11 time rake every push .. yes, that's $198/hour rake coming off the table with probably fewer hands than the 1/2 game. In this casino I'm playing lower.

The Aria game is typically more 'civilized' with proper 3b ranges and deep enough to produce some Turn Folds. As with any poker game, position is huge and even more important when you are deeper of course. In this casino I'm playing higher .. the 1/2 game was very boring the few times I've played it and 3b was AAxx or KKxx 90% of the time. Still beatable, but more 'cards' than 'poker'.

I'm not so sure 'extra' tight is the way to go, but I'm a very biased high VPiP Player. The tight Players in our area almost always end up going 3-4 to the Flop and then either get folds or end up in high variance flips for stacks. If you run well, you have a good day .. but with 2-3 opponents every hand you really need to run well or you end up folding out to the wrong Boards/action quite often.

There's no one solution since every table is different unless you're Reg heavy and have the reads on all the Players ranges and habits.

In general Players play way looser with a stack under 2x starting, but then start to pull in the reins once they win a big pot and are 3-4x starting. That's why I like the low stakes .. Once the stacks start to get deeper the ranges tighten up, so it's much easier to navigate post-Flop with higher SPRs. Also, Players are less likely to use naked blockers and end up taking Showdowns where your weak 2-pr will take down some pots.

Just IMO .. GL
