$20 buy-in 1-table friendly neighborhood sit n go. What type of player should want rebuys? Good players, average players, beginners, or doesn't it matter, and why?

The best players should theoretically want rebuys. Every buyin will be +ev for the best players in the game, so when they get unlucky and bust early they can have +ev rebuys and make more money.

Weaker players from a results-oriented sense should prefer variance, but for recreational players it can also feel lame to bust and be unable to rebuy if they want to keep playing, so there are clear reasons for recs to like rebuying too. Not to mention plenty of weak players think they're stronger than they are, so they can think they're part of the first group.

With a $20 friendly neighborhood game, I don't think we should look at it from a EV perspective at all.

If you watch a game with a couple friends, people have 3 options when they finish their first beer: Get another beer (or a different drink), hang around without a drink or go home. You have the same 3 options if you bust from that poker game early.
