Is it a better idea to join waiting lists for great tables or just join an open table with a resonably high players/flop and avg pot. Often a table with very high action will have 3+ players waiting to get on it so by the time you get on it will the dynamic of the table will have changed considerably?

Join the tables you think might be the most profitable for you. Those will pretty much always be the ones you have to sit in the waiting list to get in.

I have found that when you join a long waiting list (like 8+ deep), by the time you get to the top of the list, the reason everyone joined the list in the first place will often be long gone. Paradoxically, if you join a table that is nearly full, or has a very short list, you often find that the players-per-flop stat was misleading, because the table was short-handed and the stats haven't caught up yet.

Screw all this table selection crap! Rush Poker, here I come!

I always work by the rule of never joining a waitlist longer than 3 people on it (after all whats the point of joining a waiting list for a table thats going to be full of random players, thats what your doing if theres 8-9 people on it) and keeping an eye out for any tables popping up with 6/7 people on it and high stats and getting in early.

make your own tables, I find you're always playing fish when you do that, and it's better practice.

This is my table selection strategy...

I sort by the size of the avg. pot and not by the %that saw the flop. I then go from top to bottom joining tables with at least 30% player% per flop without anyone waiting and then join waiting lists for full tables with 0 people waiting. I'm constantly doing this and ditching tables that dry up or when the fish of the tables busts, leaves, or busts and then leaves.

It seems to work out much better than sorting by ppf%. That's just my two cents.

Fish don't table select, so they will be more likely to join you while the regs are waiting for spots at good tables (that often won't open up until the fish have busted out lol)
If you can learn how to play short-handed you will have a huge advantage over your average TAGfish if one happens to sit down with you.

The best part about making your own tables is that you can abuse players when your HU, or really short handed (3-4 players) most players who sit down won't be able to adjust enough to the game.
