UpswingPoker Quiz Question UpswingPoker Quiz Question

Hi there,

I've done this Pre Flop quiz in upswingpoker, but I couln't understand the solution to one of the questions:

I understand the explanation but the last sentence doesn't make much sense at all.

How it is possible that you should 4-bet more often with A4s than AJo when the latter is way stronger?

They also mention that 64s is a reasonable hand to 4-bet pre-flop against someone you don't have reads on. Can also someone else explain how's possible for 64s to be hand to 4-bet pre-flop?

Thanks for your time

This is the quiz and the answers in care someone is curious:

SB 3! range to a BTN open contains a lot of A5 -AT which your 4! folds out a good deal of the time. With AJ, you don't want those hands to fold.

You call the 3! with AJo because you have position and a range advantage.

Let me see if I understand.
So you're saying the optimal range for a 3-bet in the SB includes all Ax range? And therefore because they're most likely to be behind with their ranks Ax, you want to keep them in the play? And with A4, because you're behind you want them to fold?

A5-AT for example seems a pretty bad hand to me to check-3-bet pre flop. Seems to me to be a check-call at most. No?

It's not a foregone conclusion that AJo is "way stronger" in this spot. A4s has way better playability (ie. it realizes equity better postflop) and it in fact plain has ~5% more RAW equity vs premiums, which is HUGE.

The quiz is a bit dated. Usually you want your 4bets to have good blockers.

AJo can raise or call. Raising turns it into a bluff because you're usually dominated against their contribution range. But you have great blockers. But it's also strong enough to call and play as a medium strength hand.

A4s can also raise or call. It plays more like a draw either way. I think these hands prefer a slightly deeper SPR so I lean towards a flat.

64s should probably just fold. It doesn't have good blockers, and it's usually too weak to call. Although you can argue for a flat if you're playing deepstacked, or if they 3bet too small. Those low suited connectors have decent implied odds against SBs top-heavy 3bet range, but they need to work with a deeper SPR.

isnt the point of the 4bet with A4 to fold out all the medium strength aces that the SB should have in their range . AJ on the other hand wants hands like AT and A9 to stay in the pot. A4 would prefer they go away
