Hi there,

I have been playing for awhile now with my friends, but am thinking about making the jump online. Are there any big tips? Any recommendations?

play 2nl (0.01/0.02), absolutely do not play higher stakes because you get bored

READ a lot on these forums

read this twice after playing your first session

I say the first step is to jump into play money games before you start doing anything else. Read these forums and try to get a better grasper grasp for the game.

After you play in the play money games for a little while, deposit some money and get a feel for which you prefer (SNG's/Cash). I think that after you've done this, you should read a book or 2 to improve, and move on from there.

Always keep in mind that money won't come quick and that it takes a lot of time and effort. This is probably the thing that holds people back the most (well... at least me. I'm trying hard to grind it out now). This is where bankroll management comes in.

Good luck.

play at pokerstars, it is better for micro stakes

if you do choose fulltilt, make sure to research rakeback before making an account.

How much do you plan on depositing?

Tips: Get rake back, track sessions, read the micro strategy forums, post hands, pick one thing and stick to it, set a goal to move up when you are comfortable, and everyone online isn't trying to bluff you.

Read as much as you can. STUDY the game. Figure out if you want to grind STT's, MTT's or cash games. Maybe start with play money to get the "feel" of online poker

Best of luck

Beginners Forum Frequently Asked Questions

Before you sign up with any poker site, have a clear understanding of the rakeback situation. If you didn't understand that sentence, do not sign up anywhere until you do. It's the one thing that can really screw you up for a long, long time.
