Obviously when I play online I have auto top up selected - this is good. When Im plying live though, I cant say at the end of every hand "dealer, sell me a $2 chip". Can I? That would be so annoying... How do you guys top up? Wait til you are 5bb down, 10bb down, what?

Easy. If you are playing $200nl, get like $500 from the cashier and ask for a load of $25 chips. When you get a bit lower just take them out your pocket and put on table. Maybe inform dealer that you topped up.

Depending on what level I'm playing, I tend to get an extra half a buy-in when buying chips so I can top off as needed. I'll set a "top off level" for each game, usually $50-$100, and add chips once I reach that level. Having the extra chips helps keep the game going and prevents the cash transaction at the table. Just make it a little obvious to others when you're adding chips, especially the dealer, so you're not questioned.
