Switching to live Q#2: Beating the rake Switching to live Q#2: Beating the rake

Looked over the 1/2 NLHE game at the nearby casino and, according to posted house rules, $2 is taken from a pot of $10, with an additional $1 for $20, $30, $40 pots up to $5 max in rake per hand. Now when I watched live play I only ever saw a $2 get taken up for the rake, no matter how big the pot got, so I'm guessing that rule is flexible, but I'm wondering if this rake is standard and/or will it drain me over time?

Also, I hope the mods don't mind me breaking this into two questions/threads, but it seemed more convenient this way.

Rake is draining at 1/2, but beatable. 10% up to $5 max is standard. If the casino has a bad beat, it's usually $1 on any pot over $20.

I doubt the dealer was raking less by mistake or because he's nice. The card room manager would have his ass for not raking all he could. You can request a reduced rake for short handed tables, but they don't have to give it to you.

Thanks for the info St. I'm rethinking my earlier plan of coming up with a few buyins just to see how it goes. This could get expensive fast.
