small stakes hold em by sklansky is a good book as well for beginners.
should be noted though that this is a limit book though and OP said he was playing NL. dont get me wrong, it is still very helpful for NL, but maybe not as much as some for the game specifically. also, if OP is a new player, it might be confusing how to adjust and apply limit strategy accordingly.
