Multi-way I tend to think that implied odds takes a step up in decision priority ... but you still need to be very aware of the stacks in play that may effect others decisions since they may be part of chips 'needed' to make a =EV decision. The SPR can be used to decide if there's any fold-equity opportunities that you can create if you try to isolate as well.
In my game/play, I always pay attention to the short stacks to the point where I will make sure that any bet/c-bet either prevents me or allows me to raise over the top of an anticipated shove. There are cases where I want to isolate and others where I want to make sure my 'other' opponents will know I can't raise and thus be more likely to call the short shove.
You never want to discard any poker tool, but you do need to prioritize it's relevance to the spot you are in ... which is what I think you are trying to imply here. GL
