Sklansky Book Question: Limit or No limit Cash game? Sklansky Book Question: Limit or No limit Cash game?

Hi all,

I am about to attempt to read the following books:
Hold 'em for advanced players
No limit Hold 'em theory and practice

I am having a hard time figuring out what games the books are for, as I am looking for good NO LIMIT holdem CASH game books. IS "Hold em for advanced players" a limit cash game book? and is "No limit hold em theory and practice" a tourney book?

Thanks in advance, im sure the answer is obvious to most!

No Limit Holdem Theory and Practice is a cash game book. But I mean if stacks are kinda deep in a tournament (usually in the beginning) it works for that too.

I haven't read the other book.

Hi Netscaven
Hold'em for advanced players if for fixed limit, although of course some of the information can be applied to pot limit and no limit. No limit hold'em theory and practice specifically says on page two of the introduction that it is not specifically for cash games or tournaments.

If you are going to playing No Limit Texas Hold'em Cash Games, there's really no better place to start than with Harrington On Cash Games: Volumes 1-2. I recommend this order...

Harrington On Cash Games: Volumes 1-2
No Limit Hold'em Theory and Practice
Professional No Limit Hold'em: Volume 1
Heads Up No Limit Hold'em
The Theory of Poker
Poker psychology book 1
Poker psychology book 2
Poker probability book
Poker biographical/fun book

If you have specific book questions, try posting them in the Books & Publications forum. Good luck, Yojimgari
p.s. Lego05, here's what it says on page 2 of No Limit Hold'em Theory and Practice
David Sklansky: "Please don't think of this as a cash game book or a tournament book. It's not either. It's a book about how to think about no limit hold'em, and the concepts we discuss will be useful in both cash games and tournaments. We have a few tournament-specific nuggets for you, but almost everything we talk about should be valuable in either setting."

Yea I remembered that vaguely. It's true which is why I said it can be helpful for tournaments .... but practically most tournaments after a while just aren't going to have sizeable stack sizes and there won't be any turn or river play so for practical purposes a lot of what is in the book won't apply to those tournaments after a while.

Basically I think people read it primarily for cash games .... But some parts of it can help a little with tournaments too ... And like I said in a lot maybe most) torunaments the early stages play similar to a cash game so it'd help with that.
