The poker world is changing all the time. 17.5 bb is actually a 'playable' stack in some structures these days.

Tournament mentality is 'why do more than you need to' in any given spot. What are you looking to do by shoving? Are you actually going to get called by worse, just want to pick up 5.5bb (30% bump) or more than wiling to flip? There's only a 30% chance that an A or K hits the Flop.

There are plenty of tournaments out there where a raise to 12-1500 is plenty to take this down or pick up an opponent with a random hand in position. Would you rather play a wider range of hands this way or simply be locked into the top 5%?

We certainly don't know how the table has been going, what the other stacks are or how you 'type' your opponents. I don't see this as an easy shove 'only'. I see this has an opportunity to play a hand the best way you see fit. If you drop down to 8-12bb then yes, a shove is the 'only' way to go. But this also has to be under the right conditions where you (and your image) can effectively play a 12-20bb stack in order for that to creep up to this spot as well. GL

Just GII imo. Calling is terrible and I think raising is worse. Any raise should be like 5x at least imo, leaving you around 12bb left into a pot that will have at least 15bb in it on the flop even if you only get one caller, and with a raise like that a lot of hands that are limping the flop are gonna be priced in to call cos it'll be like anywhere between 2.5-4/1 on a call.

GII, if you get called you have all 17bb of theirs in the middle and are almost always crushing them/way ahead, if they all fold then so be it, you pick up an extra 6bb or so, now you have 23 which is plenty. But raising pre, then having to fold on the flop is just terrible imo.

Sometimes you're just going to run into a hand mate, it happens. Either way it was all going in preflop there, because if you called or raised, he'd have shoved anyway as nobody wants to play AK multi way. Unforunately this time he got there, shoving was definitely correct.
