I've played B&M/live poker recreationally for about three years now. I play a variety of games, but my favorites are PLO, O8, and LHE. When I play live, I play up to 2/5 PLO, 5/10 O8, and 5/10 LHE.

I'm interested in playing online to challenge myself and get in some hands when I can't make it to my closest B&M casinos, which are about three hours from where I live. So today I bought a copy of Holdem Manager Small Stakes, got it working properly with my poker site client, and played a few hands. I enjoyed it.

My question for you more experienced online players: what is a reasonable sample size and BB/100 at which you would feel comfortable moving up in stakes? I am starting toward the absolute bottom of the online stakes because I am well aware that online far outclasses live w/r/t the same stakes. But how will I know when I should, for example, move from .05/.1 LHE to .1/.2 LHE?

As with just about everything in poker, I realize there are not going to be any hard and fast answers, but I'd love to hear lots of opinions on the issue. Thank you in advance!

Maybe try and make 20 bi for the next level and then move up. Like stay at .05/.1 LHE untill you make $400 dollars there.

Thank you! I think that 20 buy-ins is a reasonable guidepost.

However, I have the special problem of playing multiple games out of the same bankroll, so I was looking for more of a "beating X game at Y BB/100 for Z hands means you should move up."

For instance, beating LHE for 2.5 BB/100 over 10k hands means you should move up. I think that that formulation would be more helpful to me because I'll be playing multiple games out of the same bankroll. Or maybe that doesn't make a difference and I'm barking up the wrong tree here?

I did what you did moving up throught LHE. I used 10K hands per level and my winrates were 9bb/100, 5bb/100, 4bb/100, and so on. 20 B.I. per level is for NL. Use 10K hands and see where you are or unitl you win 150 BB per level.
