Typically , how many hours with a specific player do you spend before getting accurate reads through betting patterns?

freal?

If they play every hand, it's less than an hour

Live or online?

Regardless, it depends a lot on how unorthodox they are, and whether they have oreos with them.

Depends what you mean by a read. I start to build reads against players online before they've even played a hand.

I called someone down all-in on the river with a pair of 4s on the very first hand I'd sat down for in a $1/$3 live game based off a soul read once. Never played a hand against them before. They had a pocket pair of 3s.

That seems more stupid than anything else.

True.
If they have a sn like I_am_a_fish or urdonk they are usually ubernits.
If they are hellmuth123 or anything with ivey in they are whales.

No, it wasn't. He was sitting directly to my right and I immediately sensed he missed the flop. It might be weird explaining how I "sensed" that but I play a lot of live poker and you notice things with breathing patterns and hand and eye movements and sometimes with the right combination of nervous movements you can tell if someone hit or completely missed on the flop. I hit bottom pair (the 4). He cbet out and got two people to fol and I called. He made another appropriately sized cbet on the blank turn and I called again. When he went all-in I took about 25 seconds to tank. I was still 100% convinced he had missed on the flop and his story didn't make sense if he'd made his hand on the turn or the river. I decided he couldn't beat a pair of fours and as I moved my hand to move in the chips he immediately picked his cards up off the table and began to motion like he was going to muck his hand which instantly confirmed in my mind that he couldn't beat bottom pair so I called and he just said "you're good" and threw the 3s face up into the muck. I tabled the pair of fours.

I've also soul read a player I play heads up against live a lot and called him all-in post flop with 8 high once. He had 24o 8 held up.

I'm referring to live play. And I mean reliable, solid, confident analysis of someone's betting patterns. Not shot in the dark soul reading.

lmao

Online at microstakes, you can get a decent enough read after about 50 hands or so imo. Also keep an eye out on betting history and what they have at showdown.. betting size when they have something as opposed to draws as opposed to air. In 50 hands you get to see AT least 4-5 hands they play..
again this is my experience at microstakes online

To profile a player is to put them in a specific category.

Such as nit, tag, lag etc...

Then you can build your hand ranges for them after watching for around 30 to 60 minutes.

Pay attention to every street of action and see what they show down, also look at board textures to see how they match with their pre flop ranges.

Most nits will only raise with the top 5 to 10% of their range. This will be very pocket pair heavy and ace high heavy.

Read ed millers book how to read hands at no limit holdem and you will get your answers.

I class every player i play i uber nit (plo) as most know to play nuts, when i see them show down none nut hands or bluffs then i use the online tags eg nit/donk/good avoid/

same for nl some players play tight and never bet unless got nuts just make sure you know that with tag or read and never pay them of

online get good idea on players in few orbits.

This. Why on Earth are you calling all-in with 8 high? Unless you know they missed their straight draw but even then, it's ****ing 8 high.
