I have a couple questions regarding rakeback software.
Firstly, is it legitimate? It seems that something like this could be easily trackable by the sites you play on and could result in an account ban. Secondly, if this software is legitimate which site is the best for it? I've seen rakeback, rakebrain, raketherake, and more. If I were to sign up for it which one should I choose?

I'm relatively new to serious online play and I've been looking into a few things like this rakeback software and things like pokertracker. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

http://www.rakeback.com/

My understanding of it is that you get a percentage of the rake that online sites take credited back into your account. For example, the site is offering 27% of the rake you take back to you if you play at FTP. Maybe I'm understanding it wrong?

I get you now. That's completely legit, and don't sign up to FTP without it. It adds up to a lot of money back in the long run. As for which site to sign up through, there are plenty of reputable ones such as raketherake, rakefreeze, thisisthenuts. Have a look on the rakeback forums here and see which one suits you best.

No affliliate can offer more than 27% rakeback at FTP, but some have rakeraces and freerolls so choose which one suits you best.

If you're just starting out and playing microlimits i'd advise you to hold off on FTP for a while, the $600 1st deposit is one of the best out there and should be left until you are playing 50nl.

Well actually I already have money on FTP and I've been a member for a little over a year now. Does this mean that I will not be able to sign up for rakeback? Can you only sign up for it when creating an account?

That is correct. If you signed up through an affiliate or kickback site when you joined FTP you will not be able to get rakeback on your account. If you only signed up through FTP, then you can email support and they will put you on a waiting list for rakeback from rakebackpros.

For other pokersites, of the rakeback sites, I use raketherake and have been more than happy with the service. I'd recommend them.

I did sign up from Fulltiltpoker.net. It's their support I have to email?

Rakeback is not software. Rakeback is a marketing technique.

You have it correct. The Rakeback website offers to pay you some of the rake back that poker room has charged from you. Rakeback percentages are usually around 30% of your Net Rake (Gross Rake minus costs like bonuses).

The important point here is that you must open your poker account through the Rakeback website. This is because the rakeback is paid to you out of marketing commission that Rakeback site gets from the poker room for referring you to create a new poker account. You cannot add rakeback payments to an existing poker account that has not been created through Rakeback site.

Unfortunately that is the case. You cannot add rakeback to poker accounts that you have created directly from the poker room website.

I opened an account with no rakeback (bad idea).

Then I opened another account with rakeback (very bad idea, do not do this).

Then I emailed FTP and asked to be "put on the list" and the next time they felt generous they changed my affiliate to a rakeback providing one (bingo!).

I make no promises that this will work, but it can't hurt.
