I was playing a very small cash game (just $4 buy in $.02/$.04 with two other people a couple nights ago, and I was wondering how to play someone who plays just about every hand.

I had position on the guy, but both the people I played against don't know much about general poker basics. I was playing pretty tight, and took their money when I hit hands like a lot of general poker strategy tips say for players like this.

But there were also a lot of flops where I would miss and the person before me would always bet. I knew he had nothing most of the time, but I also didn't have anything, and he did it everytime so it was impossible to know whether he had anything or not. I reraised him a couple times, and took down the pot, but mostly I folded. Just from those interactions, he probably came out positive, while I did slightly negative. I walked away with more money than I started with, but I was wondering what the best way to handle that situation.

try floating more and see what there tendacies are on the turn, the player types
you describe will often give up if there hand does not improve or bet a small amount if (sometimes same as flop bet) if they have a marginal hand (i.e 3rd pair) and trying to get to showdown cheap

3-handed, if you're folding on the flop to a bet every time you miss, you're the fish.

3 handed you need to be a lot more loose as the blinds will obvs eat you up. Try raising wen your the button the majority of the time, if you hit happy days, if you miss c-bet/float to see what they do on the turn/river.

Ok thanks. Yeah, I thought I was folding too often... It was just that a couple of times I played back at him, he called/reraised which he only did if he had a hand, so I guess it was just bad timing.

Thanks for the tips!

you shouldnt always call just because you have ace-high, i'd just fold some flops with AK for example, what you are looking for is backdoorequity when floating, like you have 87s and flop is J23 one of your color

then you can float, maybe take it down on any Q/K/A turn or call again if your color hits again and shove river if you hit

if you always only call with superstrong drawing hands and raising only with 2pair+ you will become very predictable^^
