Hi does anyone have any tips on how to do a post session review?

I’ve recently decided to take my game to the next level, I’ve been reading and studying a lot and I always see that the best way to plug leaks is to review hands but I’m not sure what I should be looking for and I’m struggling to even start.

Can anyone give me advice on where to start, maybe even share their process if their own reviews or a link to a video on what I should be doing. Literally anything to help me get started reviewing sessions! Thanks

First, figure out your leak.

Next, pull up your database and filter these exact spots. For example, flop raises. What to call, what to fold.

Now you have some examples with your hand and the board.

Go over these hands and give them a range of hands you think they might have. Learn and repeat.

I’d add, try to avoid being results oriented. Don’t only study hands you lost; pay just as much attention to hands you won. It is entirely possible to completely butcher a hand and win anyway. It is also possible to play a hand very well and lose. Even if you play a hand reasonably well and win, there might have been a spot where you misplayed it and could have won more than you did.

We have a tendency to look at the losing hands more, but that is not always most beneficial. As was posted earlier try to focus on one aspect of your game at a time, such as responding to flop raises as was suggested, but make sure to look at that aspect in all the hands where it applies regardless of result.

Where to start? You start wherever you paused before acting or wherever your opponent got to Showdown with something that didn't even cross your thought process during that hand.

Do you win a lot of small pots, but lose the big ones? See if there are any differences in betting, timing patterns or Board texture .. even position.

It should be pretty easy to pick a few hands from each session and try to break them down. By the time you get to the 10th session you should see a pattern in the types of hands that you are looking into 'each' session .. that's where you need to spend extra time in your study.

Are you Donk betting too much? Do you c-bet/fold when Donked into on the Turn .. or the River when you check Turn through IP?

Are you adjusting your bet sizing to the number of opponents and/or the Board texture?

Are you adjusting your 3-bets consistently when you have limpers involved?

Are you adjusting your 3-berts based on the Opponents left to act VPiPs?

Studying can become overwhelming if you try to make wholesale changes to your game all at the same time. Pick 2-3 areas, if not just 1-2, and study them until you are satisfied. Then move down your list or replace one item on your list with another.

Don't go into a session with any firm intentions .. like, I'm going to 3-bet X more times than yesterday. Today's game may not allow for that, nor your hole cards!

All of these spots will eventually become 2nd nature .. remember the first time your AA got cracked? Well, I'm sure you get over it much more quickly now than before, eh?

As indicated above, look at your wins as well. Where can you increase your value sizing to maximize profit against certain opponent's ranges and Board textures. How often are you getting folds to your double/triple barrels? If 'all the time' then you can increase your frequency until you get called more often .. or you can adjust your bet sizing to get more calls .. and thus more value.

Lots of options and we really can't tell you where to start as your mind already knows where to start. You just need a mechanism to remember where those spots are and try to figure out what made you do what you did .. then figure out if you 'did right' or need to make a change. GL

Make sure you are in an objective headspace before you start reviewing your database.

Sometimes after sessions wether its a winning or loosing session can effect how you look at how you played the hands.

Got much more out of a post analysis after I took a walk or gym after a session.

Sort of would want access to a solver or solver outputs. If you have access to something like you basically review hands played in your session and analyze your actions/thoughts and compare/contrast with solver outputs.
