For 6-max tables I found the following position names depending on how many players are seated at your table:

//2 players: Dealer, Big Blind(in this case, the Dealer is also the Small Blind).
//3 players: Dealer, Small Blind, Big Blind
//4 players: Dealer, Small Blind, Big Blind, UTG(Under the Gun)
//5 players: Dealer, Small Blind, Big Blind, UTG, Cut - Off
//6 players: Dealer, Small Blind, Big Blind, UTG, UTG + 1, Cut - Off

My question is regarding the the 4 and 5 player naming that seems off to me. UTG to me implies that you would still limit yourself to cards that should only be played in UTG position of a FULL 6-max game (all 6 players seated), *BUT*, if you are one of only 4 players seated, shouldn't 'UTG' really be called 'Cut-Off' since the range of hands you would play in Cut-off would make more sense to play at a table with only 4 players?

Perhaps I am missing the obvious: Still call it UTG, but player a wider range (like the wide range for Cut-off) simply implied.

You name positions off from the button, if that makes sense.

For example 4 handed the first player to act preflop is the cutoff, not UTG.

5 handed first to act is MP, then CO, BTN etc, utg doesnt exist

Exactly this.
Also, I'd recommend referring to the dealer position as "Button" or "BTN" if you want to sound competent. It's only really newbies and books from 15 years ago that say "dealer". Whether you're playing live or online, it's crucial to note where the button is. In most circumstances, you don't actually do any dealing, but the importance of position is crucial to understand.
I'd commonly say something like "I was two off the button" to describe my position (although I'd say "MP" if I was in a forum specializing in 6-max), as it doesn't really matter whether there were 1, 2, 3 or 4 players that already folded. The important thing to know is how many people still to act have live cards, and that becomes obvious if you state how far away from the button you are.

UTG just means the player first to act. It doesn't say anything about what kinds of hands you should be playing in this named position
UTG 9-handed plays way tighter than UTG 6-handed which is again tighter than UTG 4-handed.
