I play maybe 10 hours a week. I'm thinking of bumping to 15 hours but that may be hard, because of personal commitments. I feel though there is a sever limitation to profits b/c of my limited time.

I am thinking of approaching poker like a part-time job: log in regular scheduled hours. does anyone else have these challenges?

Yea it can be tough but just focus on time management. These are some activities people do that can be a waste of time if done too much: tv, movies, internet, and pc/video games. Get rid of all those activities except for basic internet stuff. Then write out a time budget. In order to be great at poker you need to put in a lot of time for it. You can put in less time but it's less likely you will become great. Decide how much you are willing to commit to it. You may have to spend much less time on your other hobbies and make poker your main hobby. Try 3 hours a day atleast for atleast 5 days a week to be good. Good luck, Yojimgari

What are your current daily time budgets? Also, what's your current daily Texas Hold'em time budget? Try this...

Texas Hold'em time budget
5 hours a day for 5 days a week
2:30 TH playing/reviewing/posting
1:00 TH books/articles/videos
1:30 TH forums
5:00 Total daily time for Texas Hold'em(Mostly skip tv/news/blogs/mags/webcasts)

How many hours a week do you work? How many units in school do you take? Who do you live with(spouse, # of kids)? That will help us in setting up a time budget for you. Good luck, Yojimgari

...about 55 hours per week, not including travel (reading time), live w/ wife and 6 mo old.

I am looking right now to do bare min of 10 hours: 2 per night/ 4 dys, 2 or more during wknd.

After a couple of weeks I'll up it. Whaddya think?

You work 55 hours a week and some travel. You have a wife but more importantly a baby. Now is a time where you may be very busy to be able to put too much time into poker. How many hours a day do you sleep? How many days a week do you work?

The point is if you're already working 55 hours a week to support your baby and wife, you probably shouldn't be putting another 10 in every week playing poker. Play and study when you get a chance, but realize that every minute you spend playing poker is one that you're not spending with your family. Kids grow up quick. You have the rest of your life to play poker. Just don't turn it into another job.

Why not do these WHILE playing poker? That's how I clock 4-7 hours a day without trying.

That said I'm just a college kid, so it might be different. It helps that I don't go getting smashed every night, I suppose.

Yeah, that's making the most sense right now. I think now the thing is to find the balance. Poker is great, but family is more important.

I'll still be= playing, but going a little sloower than some of you.

Hopefully you find the proper time balance HandHack1. How many hours a day do you sleep? How many days a week do you work? Good luck, Yojimgari

I need mostly 8...but, I can get up early and squeeze 30 min a day...I work 5 dys a week.

On the weekend, I get to play early morning/late at night. During the week may 3 - 4 x I play at night for an hour. The rest of free time I am going to use to read, think and write.

If you have more time suggestions I am open to hear it.

It may be tough since you work 55 hours a week and have a family, but you may be able to put in 2 hours a day for 5 days a week or something. What's your plan?

This is great HandHack1. Do you have any friends or family that play poker? You can set up a home game. You should try a casino game sometime maybe, but keep in mind that the play is different there. If you are playing cash games you can also try a stt or a mtt also if you want, online or at a casino. What did you do today? Good luck, Yojimgari
