People!... Im looking for some advice to approaching my situation.

Here goes... I played poker at the local casino and home games for 5 years straight generally $1/2 - $1/3 - $2/4 games. I dropped out because I lifestyle reasons (left with money money in my bankroll) and went back to university and completed a degree plus some other extra subjects.

Now that my lifestyle issues are solved Im looking to get back into playing. I've done a lot of 'off the table' study. What should I do? Play online or play home games? ... I'm not really keen on the casino. How should I approach re-entering poker?

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance - Boogie

Where do you live? What are your goals in poker? How big is your bankroll?

Just to warn you, this sub-forum is more about the operation of the other subs, and not so much about poker itself, so you might get some pretty silly responses.

I wouldn’t play any higher than 1/2 with that roll

You already state that you are 'not keen' on the casino (high rake?, travel?, environment?) so it looks like you are down to online or home games.

If you peruse these forums you will see that online poker is pretty tough, so you 'should be' starting at a pretty low stake to try and establish where you fit. Will you be able to handle grinding a $20 or $100 stack because that's where your skill set is right now?

If you go into a home game with a 'serious' attitude about making hay, then you may not get invited back!! That's just the way it is unless you have a very good relationship with the host or Players. It appears you've been there before so that probably hasn't changed too much.

I can pretty much say that the 'life style' of poker hasn't changed much in 5 years ... at least the 'poker hours' haven't changed. Certainly online you can play whenever, but there's still good times and less good times to play.

So I guess lets figure out if poker is still fun by trying to get a taste of all three options. You should still know enough to start out with an ABC style and observe what may have changed from bet sizing to Player ranges and then go from there. Just be aware that online is MUCH tougher than it used to be, so don't get greedy and jump into a stake that your bankroll can handle 'just because'. GL

Thanks Answer... It will be interesting to see how my game has changed after having a 3-4 year break and doing some theory study... Im keen! Not keen on the casinos just cause there are too many degens and I'd prefer to play with classy people rather than ratbags (regardless of the fiscal outcome).

I'm thinking I may start just playing tourneys online just casually while building my roll a bit more, until I find a good home game or start my own home game.

I'm actually, enjoying working so thats not a problem but really keen to start playing poker again.

Its good to get some different perspectives and engage with other players to gain further insight.

What poker sites do you suggest?

I'm in US and haven't played online since the first Black Friday. There should be plenty of 'advice' in these forums to guide you. From the outside looking in, I can deal with most of the 'stuff' that is associated with online poker ... but don't mess with my withdraws. Make sure you read the withdraw policy (and any details tied to a deposit bonus) before you decide to play with any seriousness. GL

What do you mean by messing with withdrawals? I'll definitely read the terms and conditions... Which site do you play on?
