Welcome to the forums!

Why not play live if you are quite good?

If you want to play online, dont just quit your job and think you will make it. Start at the micros and play 50K hands minimum and see where you are at. If you are doing ok and not tilting, move up repeat and keep repeating until you reach a level you are beating and making good money. There are a lot of people who cant handle playing poker for a living, so I would make it a goal to make some side money first, then think about full time.

As for getting better, read up in the appropriate forums to your game on this site and study study study. Then practice practice practice. Read the stickies at the top of each forum too as they are usually loaded with info. Good Luck!

-don't quit your job.
- join a training site - watch videos, take notes, engage yourself.
- post hands on 2+2 that you find tough.
- make mistakes at the micros then learn.

Do not consider quitting your job until you are consistently winning for a long time. There are plenty of training sites out there that will help you improve your game. Also take to studying your hand histories so you can understand where you are going wrong.

If you're well paid...

Get some hands in an 25NL and then spend some money on a decent coach and a membership to a decent training site.

Then profit

Dueces cracked, cardrunners, bluefire, there are probably others, but these are the best in my opinion.

Use the free trials that the major sites have. DC, CR, BF, and LP all offer risk-free 7 day trials IIRC

If you're non-US use this site, you can get a free month of CR if you're able to get 5500 FTP's in the previous month IIRC.
