I play micros (for life) and find myself fundamentally unprepared for the game. A lot of the micro stuff I read doesn't apply like it may have a few years ago when written. I play on Merge and the small amount of traffic makes for a lot of familiar faces and fewer completely clueless fish than I would like for how bad I play.
That being said I'm looking to develop my game through reading the forums and talking strategy. I don't have any friends who play poker so talking to people I actually know is not helpful. I haven't really been successful at NLHE or PLO but have decided to concentrate on NLHE bc my results are better and I don't think I can learn PLO quite yet w/out it.
Can anybody help me out finding some current threads describing ways to approach the game w/ solid fundamentals and some sort of strategy to avoid spewing? I seem to always think way too hard when they aren't thinking that deeply, or just don't think at all and act like a complete donk instead of my normal partial donk.
I also would like to possibly get coaching or something like that but figure I should be able to play 25-50NL first. I did move up to 10NL for a bit, but hit a downswing and moved down. Still downswinging but should have enough in the roll to get through it w/ some hard work

read the concept of the week threads and the stickies. thats a good start. I agree you shouldnt get a coach until you are beating 25nl for 3bb/100 glad you are exercising control over your bankroll.

I think getting a coach ASAP would be a good idea, try to save up some money for at least a few sessions, getting something like a video review of your play done can be extraordinarily helpful in identifying personal flaws and leaks. I agree that you should peruse the COTWs first, but I wouldn't wait that long to get a coach.

I would say drop to 2nl and start from fresh. Play 10k hands and see what happens if your winning then try moving upto 5nl and putting in some serious volume at that lvl.

You may of picked up alot of bad habbits along the way so a fresh start may well be what you need. Just post hand historys in the micro game section and reply to others threads to guage how your thinking compared to others. Others will also be able to point out where your thinking might be flawed when reading your responces.

Feel free to pm me about any questions you may have. I dont claim to know everything but what little i do know im always happy to share.

you found 2+2. this is the place to go for strat talk. basically find the forum that discusses the game time you want to discuss, read the stickies so you don't make a fool of yourself and/or incur the wrath of banhammer weilding power hungry mods and you'll do fine. welcome.

fwiw I disagree because OP is playing microstakes and would get way more value from these forums (free) and a decent video site that has a monthly subscription. coaches are great but if he's playing micros to get a decent amount of coaching will probably cost more than his roll. in short, work the fundamentals with forums and subscription sites THEN get coaching later to iron out any kinks, thats my line.

Thanks to all for the advice. I'm on a bit of a downswing and have completely let that affect my game. My game before was fundamentally flawed anyways. I would definitely like to watch some videos as they give me a chance to see the complete process of a winning player and not just one hand out of thousands they played that day. Both need to be done but right now I'm really looking to watch others play and possibly have somebody watch me play down the line.
Like I said I don't know how much a coach could really help me at 4NL bc it's a lot of fundamentals that I could likely learn in videos. What is the best site for micro 6max NLHE videos? I think it's best for me to just get back to the basics

(Re-)read SirCuddles guide to beating the micros. It should all be very familiar advice, but may help you rebuild confidence. http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/78...micros-430637/
