On my next trip I'd like to try my hand at some PLO. What stakes on Stars and what reading material would be a good start?

I've never played live PLO but I assume the Jeff Hwang book is probably a pretty good primer for lolsoft games. Prepare to see plenty of 7-way flops I assume.

play money on stars, real money elsewhere, i know the online landscape is awful for games that aren't boring old nlhe but i assume somewhere else does at least run plo

I think a good idea is to start with Play Money. the Omaha Tables at the WSOP poker app are always full. Also I find it useful to deal to a 4-handed table and run simulations.

I'm no expert but my advice if you're going to play live PLO is to be ready for a magnitude of swings you never even dreamed of in NLHE. In PLO it's really hard to get your stack in as more than a 55% favorite. You can flop a 16-out wrap and find out you actually have about 28% equity against a made two pair with a flush draw (it would be a cointoss against top set with only a boat redraw).

I don't know from experience, but I think there's a casino called Linq that actually does 1/1 PLO - meaning you can buy in for only $100 and be able to play with 100 big blinds.

Oh thats awesome! I didn't know that the linq had that available. Will check that out. It is for vacation and fun mainly with the added benefit of making money. I wanted to try something out I have never done and thought a live PLO game would be fun. Thanks for the info.

I've never been to vegas but if you're just getting into PLO (I kinda am too) I'd def start with play money just to get used to hand reading because it can be too easy to mix up holdem hands with PLO hands and think you have a flush because u have 1 spade in your hand and 4 on the board (I've done this many times before lol)

I've found 2PLO to be soft and full of regs that play it like Holdem. You'll instantly recognize them because they'll usually play hands like KQ56 (ie. two holdem hands put together) and their standard open raise size is usually 3bb instead of the pot. 5PLO and 10PLO are probably good places to start really learning the game.

As far as books go, I highly recommend getting Jeff Hwang's PLO book. It's pretty much the Harrington on Hold'em of Omaha. I'm still not a good PLO player at all, but soon as I finished reading it it was like my game stepped out of the hyperbolic time chamber and went from trash to being able to win consistently.

I like these articles as well:

Lastly, google "Tune in, bet pot, cash out". It's a free PDF that has good beginner advice.
