If there are three 8s on the board, I have an 8 in my hand. Does that make four of a kind?

Yes. You must play three cards on the board, so you play the three eights, and two from your hand, so you play the 8 and a kicker.

Yes but when there's 4 eights on the board you only got a set (or a full house if you have a pocket pair in your hand)

Ok, does it matter if the kicker in your hand is outranked by a kicker on the board?

You must use exactly two cards from your hand and three from the board. The kicker would never matter with quads in Omaha because no one can ever have the same quads, but for a different example:

Board:
JJKA2
P1: KQ95
P2: K245

P1 wins with KKJJQ, beating P2’s KKJJ5. The Ace on the board doesn’t play in either hand like in Hold’em.

No, you will use the best kicker in your hand. The other two cards on the board, aside from the three eights, are irrelevant. Although for promotional purposes (high hand jackpot, bad beat jackpot) often the quads must be made from a pocket pair.

Welcome .. yes, Ohmaha can get a bit tricky when the Board is paired or there's four to a straight (or flush) out there as well as the spot you are talking about.

It's a mind set that you will naturally pick up on .. and eventually take advantage of when you put a Player on a straight or flush and the Board pairs (or triples up) on the River.

Not only do you hold 6 two-card combinations that you can use to win, you also have more 'believable' bluffing opportunities based on Board texture ... great game. GL
