Why not just call it what it is? Either "checking" or "calling", depending on what you're actually talking about.

Is there ever a good reason to show bluff?

Sure, in many cases you might want to tilt your opponent, when someone is shown a bluff, it's natural for them to get upset, secondly: showing bluffs will ideally give you a "loose" image, you can trick others into thinking that all you do is play with nothing if you keep showing bluffs, and at that point if you play a real hand, then you're in a great spot to trap them.

Those are just asic examples though

In a weird way I think it can be a good thing sometimes. However, when I'm playing if I see someone show their hand (be it a bluff or otherwise) I instantly assume that the person is a fish if they are relatively unknown. Purely for the reason that 99% of regs have auto muck turned on.

I suppose given this logic then yes it would be good to show bluffs from time to time if it will give the impression to your opponents that you're a fish.

Not really

Plenty of threads about it in BQ, just do a search for 'showing a bluff' as there's some good reads. Most people are in the 'never show' camp imo.

Is this thread on building a bankroll by Homer still relevant today? It looks like great advice but I see it's dated 7 years ago now and I wonder if the numbers have changed, or sites have shut down, or if some of them have a lot less players than they used to...

It's too outdated imo.

Sure it's possible, but the pros far outweigh the cons imo especially when you begin to play more than one table. It's just so much easier to improve with one:

It keeps track of all your winnings - you could do this with excel.
It stores all your hand histories so you can review them - you can do this from the raw hh file and a web converter
You can keep notes on villains - you can do this on the sites themselves
You have the option of a HUD - pen and paper, maybe?

So you could possibly do all the above w/o one but it's far more laborious and tedious. Plus the info you can drill down and extract from a tracker is very extensive.

What bumblebee said.

Having a HUD is really useful, but the real killer benefit of PT/HEM is hand review afterwards.
