If you can multiply by 2 you can get a good approximation for most situations.
If you know how many outs you have, take that number and multiply by 2. This will give you the percentage that you will hit on the next card. If you have 2 cards to come, take your result and multiply by 2 for the probability of hitting by the river.
If, on the flop, you have 9 outs to hit your flush, you will get it about 9*2 = 18% of the time. By the river - 18 * 2 = 36% of the time. If you compare this to Statmanhal's chart, you will see that it is pretty close, and it doesn't take memorization or heavy math.
