Hi Everyone,

Just started getting into Omaha and just a little confused. Can you use all 4 cards to make both a high and low hand in Omaha H/L?

For example I lost this hand in both the High and Low.

Opponent:

Kc As 9c 4h

Me:

3s 2d 4c 6c

Board

10c 8c 3c 8h 5d

Wouldnt he have had to use all 4 cards to make both high and low hands?

Yes, it is possible that you use all 4 cards to make a high and low hand (but that isn't always the case). 2 cards are used to make the high and 2 to make the low.. sometimes they can be the same 2 cards, sometimes there is 1 card overlap, and sometimes it takes all 4.

Your opponent wins with a flush for the high (K9) and 8543A for the low (A4).

You have to use 2 of your cards for the low hand (if there is one) and 2 for the high hand, but you don't have to use the same 2 cards.

Your high hand is:
Tc 8c 6c 4c 3c
opponent:
Kc Tc 9c 8c 3c

Your low is:
85432
opponent:
8543A

easiest way to remember is use must use any two of the cards in your hand with any three of the board cards for high . and the same for the low.

Don't make the mistake of ONLY going for the low as so many do.

Don't make the mistake of sitting at a Hi-Lo table, thinking you're at a Hign only table.

Done it a few times.

Each time played about 50 hands before I realised what the freak was happening.

Strangely, didn't do too badly, though.

Weird.

Since I'm mostly a plo8 player, I've made the opposite mistake more than once.

Weird.
The last time I did it, I doubled my initial buy-in before I realized what game I was playing.

I wonder which mistake is more costly in the long run?
