I know this is a very elementary question for this forum - but I thought I would ask.

I am nosing around Bovada and America's Card Room to give online a try. To date I have only played lower stakes live NL games. In asking around I have been told to start out playing the low level sit and go's ($1) or low level tourneys instead of like .25/.50, .50/1 ring games until I get a feel for the sites.

Any thoughts?

If you do play cash, stick to .02/.05 (5NL) at first to get the hang of it. Even if you're a really good live player, you're probably not good enough to stand a chance at .25/.50 (50NL) or .50/1 (100NL).

The tourney advice is solid.

I second otatop's thoughts on cash games. Start at the very bottom. Live and online poker are very different animals. Practice some decent bankroll management and move up the ladder only when you have 50+ buy ins for the next game level. When you find the level you're going to stop at, double it to 100 buy ins.

In so far as SNGs, you might try the JackPot SNGs on ACR... the rec:reg ratio in them is quite high. Many players also find the prize pool variations... fun.

Jackpot SNGs (Spin & Go's) are fun but I wouldn't recommend them especially if OP has never really played the hyper turbo 3 man format and possibly hasn't played to many sit n gos in general.

OP if you haven't played SitnGo's ever, you should play a few and then read about ICM, push/fold charts, and definitely get pokertracker4/HEM2 for ACR or Holdem Indicator for bovada and a Hand Converter to import your hands. The transition from live to online is a technical one where you can really break down and look at your own play and find leaks. Volume is the key to success. Best of luck !!!

Any thoughts about which site to try first, ACR or Bovada?
