At the moment i am only 4-tabling 10nl and even still it's difficult at times to find 4 tables with a combination of good avg. pot size and players per flop%. When you start multitabling a lot of tables do you just have to accept sub-par tables?

At 10NL table selecting is more about avoiding regs who are better than you and avoiding short stack infested tables (if short stacks annoy you). Try 2 or 3 tables and focus more on your game.

While table selection is important, if you are having troubles finding 4 playable tables at 10NL, then perhaps you could consider making your own poker skill a bigger priority than table selection.

Yeah, I think that is pretty much the case. When I multitable I generally just look for 15 tables to play at rather than which tables are best. You are of course giving up a lot here so you need to be confident you are doing this at limits you can run over without 100% focus at each table.

It's not that i can't focus on more than 4 tables, i can and have, its just that it seems like after finding 4 decent tables the pickings are down to short-stack infested tables and nit conventions. Should i just sit at those and accept the fact that my winrate will be significantly lower there, or do you all usually wait around and only add a table when you see a decent one?

If you can find 4 tables worth playing at the beginning of your session, you should be able to find new tables to work in as tables go bad. If the whole site is really dry at 10NL, pwn the 5NL tables for a little while and try the 10NL tables later.

You can always keep an eye on the lobby and switch tables once better tables pop up.

So if you have 4 tables that you have a minimal edge on - you still have a minimal edge and could therefore play there. Once better tables start appearing just sit out and get up from one of the more nitty tables and replace it

Hey,

I think monitoring the lobby should always be your main game plan. Every second i get between hands I'm scanning the lobby for juicier tables, note taking and replaying key hands to gain reads. Your win rate will thank you for it. My rule of thumb is, that when any tables I'm at drop below 30%, or the opponent stacks are getting too short, they have another orbit to improve or I'm out of there. The only time I ignore that rule is when I'm at a table where each opponent has a 'fullish' stack, and there's maybe one or two fishy opponents. It's nothing for me to move through a dozen different tables an hour to make sure I'm at the best tables available.
