I have seen many posts from people saying they play 24 ring games at one time and still win. While I do not doubt these folks, I just cannot understand how...I play two tables and sometimes things are moving too fast to keep up and make proper decsions, let alone trying to put someone on a hand and keep track of the action.

Can someone explain how you can play 5,10,20 tables at a time? It is just mindboggling to me.

I limit myself to 3-4 tables. Once you get a feel for what cards you should and shouldn't play its much easier to make decisions.

When you play a lot, you start to see similar situations very often and be able to react to them (+ stats and reads) very quickly, so it becomes possible to play multiple tables at once. Also, lots of these players play a tight preflop style so while they have many tables open, they are not actually in too many hands at once (relatively speaking).

The chess analogy would be better if a little buzzer started going off as soon as any player was ready for the grandmaster to make a move.

I really have to give credit to those who play 20 tables at once. Unless you play big pairs and AK only, I dont see how they do it.

1. Play games/stakes you know you have a decent edge in
2. Stack tables
3. Watch HUD/check HH's for people that splash around
4. Valuetown said players
5. ???
6. Profit.

I generally 12 table when I want to make money. In short most players are pretty bad, and when you get used to playing there are many hands that dont require much thought. You certainly give up a bit of an edge when you do this and I generally dont do anything but ABC poker. You dont learn much, and its not much fun, but if you are grinding to make money I find it is worth it. That said, if you are just beginning and playing micro limit, I would just concentrate on beating the games and moving up before bothering to multitable a lot of tables.

Yup - its the difference between hourly rate and bb/100. Usually maximizing one does not maximize the other. Personally I prefer hourly

And as far as how to get better at playing more tables - oddly enough practice and gradually adding them.

Some sort of shortcut program would help tremendously, so you can bind common actions to a single keystroke, instead of clicking furiously at all the tables.
