At the end of the day, play what ever it is you have more fun playing and suits your schedule more. Both $1 sit n gos and 1c/2c are both equally as soft. Its your preference.
It is true that the MTT's have higher variance (meaning it could go a long time before u can cash) but if you play tournaments and sngs to help finance these tournaments you can't go wrong.
So to start with play what you enjoy the most and go from there.
One thing I will say from experience...Cash games can be brutal, and as you are starting out you have no idea if you will be a winning player or a loser. I started out playing low-stakes SNGs and MTTs, and the benefit to a beginning player is that you will usually get a lot more hands for your money and experience playing a lot of hands in marginal spots, knowing that if you go bust or make a mistake you only lose your buy-in. Contrast this to cash games where games are predominantly deep-stacked and making a mistake can cost you your entire stack. I guess the point I am trying to make is you are going to make lots of mistakes when you start playing, and starting with MTTs or SNGs can limit your losses as you gain valuable experience in how to play poker.
