move up or not? move up or not?

so i've been playing online poker player for a while. Mostly a losing player. I've decided to take it more seriously and been reading up. I've also started going to the local casino for some live action. my bankroll is very small. the casino's lowest games is 3/6 limit. its huge on 1/2 no limit and 2/5 not limit. sometimes they will have a 6/12 limit. heres the situation i've come against. i get there early sit down at 3/6. usually the competition is okay at best and i start out pretty good, then later on the retired folks come to have fun and they sit down. they start playing everything, calling all the way to the river with anything. i wait for my good hands in good position but a lot of times i get busted by two pair or some crazy straight or even a low flush because they caught the river. then i get on tilt a little and start playing too loose. i end up losing some or most of winnings i made early on. i know i have to work on not getting on cold card tilt but should i consider moving to the 1/2 no limit because the players are better and play a better game or should i just grind it out at 3/6 until i can build up the bankroll i need to move up? What would you do? any help is greatly appreciated.

have you read small stakes hold em? It's a great book for learning how to beat those retired folks at those small limits. Also, the players at 1/2 no limit really aren't that great... most of them are down right bad, and the game can be profitable by just waiting for monsters and taking people to valuetown. If you are comfortable with the idea of dropping a few hundred in a bad session and still not be pressured by a short roll... then give it a few buyin shot. If you don't feel comfortable yet, learn how to be the old folks and then give it another shot.

Definitely not.

The very last thing you should want is opponents who play better than the current lot.

Every time you raise with KK and they cold call with the cr*p they always cold call with, they're making a mistake.

When they make mistakes, you profit. (We know that's true 'cos David Sklansky said so.)

Yeah, I know it's easy to say, and somewhat harder to believe sometimes when you see the crud they've chased you down to the river with, and hit their two outer, but in the long run you WANT your opponents to play as badly as possible, as often as possible.

You can't win every hand even when you go in as a significant favourite. You can't even win every session. But in the long run you will win.

As already suggested, Small Stakes Hold'Em is the best book bar none for those games.

Good Luck.

i've been losing until recently. i've started to really read and study to play a winning game. but from these posts i realized that i've got a lot to learn so i will study more. deal with the retirees and read the low limit hold em book. this is a lot harder than i originally thought. hehe. thanks for all the comments glad i found this site.
