Say the at the showdown if 3 players turn over their hands, one guy thinks he's won with 2 pair (both hole cards paired) and says "I win 2 pair", the dealer scans cards for 10 seconds then agrees and moves chips over to the "winner" and collects cards. Meanwhile a guy who had a better 2 pair kept quiet (board was paired and probably didn't realise right away that he won) another player who has been paying attention speaks up and after a delay and says - the other guy won that with a better 2 pair. The dealer and everyone else missed it! When is it too late for a player claim the pot after the dealer has incorrectly declared the winner?

It's the players responsibility to protect their hands, even due to mistakes by the dealer.

If the winning hand is mucked, game over.

If he still has his hand, he should be able to reclaim the pot up until the cards are collected.

However the floor may get involved and it may vary from room to room.

The longest I have seen it go in a casino before getting rectified is after the pot has been shipped but before the board was collected.

every room is different and every floor rules as he sees fit. make sure you are the one with the pot in your hands.

This actually happened last night. J9 vs QJ on a KTJT8. Player 2 gets shipped the pot, board is collected, dealer begins dealing next hand when player 1 says "wait thats a chop!" Player 2 tried to defend his win for a moment, then realized this is a home game and he's gonna come off as a real douche full well KNOWING it was a chop and no need to angle him out of the pot, so he voluntarily gave back the split.

But the house was there and most everyone agreed that player 1 is SOL and to pay more attention next time.

I've seen this happen at several B&M casinos.

If the hands are TABLED, then the pot will be retroactively corrected if it is brought up right away (to include the next hand). I've seen this go to the cameras in one case. But, if a couple of hands have been dealt, then that window has expired.

It is the player's responsibility to pay attention, but at the same time, most B&Ms want to ensure a fair and honest game. So there is some gray area here. Usually, you have up until the start of the next hand to speak up. Otherwise, it is forgotten.

if the dealer takes your hand and mucks it you need time to complain but if you throw it there it should be dead and gone.

Two guys were all in on the flop, one was completely dominated but had a BDFD which hit. The BDFD guy had left the table and his hand was face down in the muck, no one spotted it... except me of course! Doubting myself i spoke up, "he had a flush" dealer flips his cards back over and ships the pot back the other way. The guy could have at least bought me a drink for my efforts.

that hand should have been dead. and the dealer fired or at least reprimanded for turning it back over. dealer needs to call the floor over if he is going to do that.
and you need to stay out of the controversy
