I consider myself as a TAG, max I lost around $720 in one session. But normally I wouldn't lose more than 4 buy ins.
Q:
(a) Should I buy in 100bbs or 250bbs for 1/2 game.
(b) what amount of losing money in one session considers yourself as a bad player.

Thanks in advance for your tips.

I've moved this to beginners. You won't get serious answers in BBV

a) as deep as you feel comfortable with
b) irrelevant, if you got in pre with AA vs KK 1000bb's deep and villain spikes a king, does that make you a bad player?

The results of one session are a very poor indicator of our ability as a player. If you consistently lose over dozens or hundreds of sessions, then it would be fair to say you are a losing player.

It is usually better to evaluate your play based on the quality of your decisons, but this takes practice and discipline. First, you need to learn how to evaluate a hand (did I calculate equity correctly, did I make a positive EV decision, did I have an accurate read on villain's range, etc.), and then you have to be disciplined to apply this analysis to all interesting hands (hands you win and hands you lose). There is a tendency to think of hands you win as being the result of skill and hands you lose being the results of variance. This fallacy convinces mediocre or losing players that they are really good, just running bad.

Self awareness, ability to remember and analyze interesting hands, ability to evaluate a hand without being results oriented, and ability to recall and understand your mindset when making decisions are all more critical to determining if you are a good or bad player than short term wins and losses.

If you are asking this question, you should start off with 100 BB. If you were a regular winner in this game, you'd know the answer. Since you aren't, you want to play more shallow.

Would you ever suggest buying in with 50BB to take the edge off ?

If you want to become a good cash game player, buying in short is going to slow you down. Bigger stacks mean more decisions and the more you sit through and analyze those spots the faster youll progress.

If you're just out there trying to have some fun though then sure but i assume thats prolly not what was being asked

I'm more comfortable playing deep stacked cash game. If in sit & go of course ABC short stacked kinda works for me. The question is should I go ahead playing aggressively with just 5bi

It is very reasonable to buy in short to start out in a new game with unfamiliar players and to adjust your stack based on how the table plays.

Hard to help when you don't give any specifics. If I had a dollar for every time someone said they were "TAG" ... asking if you should max buyin or not and whenever to roll the dice with 5 BIs says more than I ever can.

Are you a winning player? If not, don't buy in at all or do so for the minimum.

Most buyins lost in a session is not a good indicator of whether someone is a fish, although how exactly they lost them matters.

Okay don't play 1/2 the rakes gonna kill you . Read up on some short stack games buy in short , really short in 2/5. Ignore everyone that says it doesn't work because you have no equity for your hands and your forced in preflop etc. Anyhow we make our goal to beat 2/5 , it's not about the money , we are there to play good poker .
