I like playing poker but i am underage. Because of that i only play with play money on zynga poker and pokerstars. But is play money going to Hurt my skills? I have read lots of articles and books, i know a lot of the game. i love playing poker but how can i train/improve my skills While i am underage? I dont think play money is a good way to get better, i dont have any fold equity in play money!!

That you are aware of the negative sides of play money (no fold equity, no real competition) means you are on the right path.

While I would never condone illegal activities (going to a casino underage etc.) you might find a home game being played at low stakes (5-10$ tournaments or .25/.25 cash games) to improve your skills. I have a similar game that I run with my friends just for the sake of playing cards wit my friends, the money isn't really a big deal. I have seen great improvement in the players who had zero experience when we started over the few years we've had the game running.

Stay in school (seriously, making sure you go to all your maths lessons is one of the best ways to learn the skills at this stage).

but yeah stay in school until you get a degree in something poker is a passion (or its an addiciton idk) but if you have another passion like becoming a sports instructor/trainer/aid person who is on the fields then do that + poker on the side but if that doesn't work you can fall back on poker while your jobless (assuming it is still profitable 7-8 years from now)

Also i love that article you wrote the poo-bah post thing

Play money is a good way to learn the flow of a table and pick your spots for aggression. The lack of emotional ties to the 'cash' is a problem and you will not see that same type of actions from your opponents either that you would see at a real cash game.

Try to play 'play' tournaments, mainly SNG (smaller) and I think you can pick up how to handle your stack in good spots as well.

But overall, once you 'think' you have learned the game it will still leave quite a few holes to cover once you are using real cash. GL

Play money will only take you so far, that said I heard the higher play money tables are tougher on Pokerstars. Grain of salt though, I really don't know.

The problem is we don't know how old OP is. Your suggestion would work best if he is at least driving age.

OP, do your parents know of your desire to improve? If yes and they are okay with poker, talk to them.

After you know the rules, forget play money worst ever.. there are few real life stories of people playing playmoney, get egoboost from winning > think its easy money > go pro > go bust > life is broken (lose partner, house etc.)

Study basics by reading books / forums and build a solid case to convince your parents to open up account under their name to allow you to play freerolls ( way better than playmoney for training).

say.. 2 to 4 months to build your case and then grinding freerolls under your parents account. (note.. account can be closed due to violation of terms but you got to train atleast).. (assuming 18 is the age required)
