Knowing when to move up? Knowing when to move up?

Hey, as a relatively new player I have a bankroll of $212 and have been playing specifically 2nl, when I reached around the $200 mark i thought I would try playing some 5nl (40bi), so i put on 8 tables and played for a bit, not after long I was 5bi down so instantly quit. Since then I have been 24 tabling 2nl to make back the lost $25 and was just wondering if I should look to move up soon? Just I'm scared given the previous attempt, however I did look back over the dreaded 5nl session and I do believe i played quite well, was just very unfortunate. Can anybody share some advice on good techniques to use when looking to move up in stake, preferable quite conservative as I don't wish to go bust by a bad run of variance. Any Ideas? Thanks

Stick to 5nl. Play your game and if your BR falls below $50 then got back to 2nl.

Dude....if your 24-tabling and winning, I'm sure you can handle 5nl at say 25-50% of the tables. Play 10,000 hands and get a feel for it. Can't judge it off a few hundred hands of run bad.

Yeah I see what you are saying, I don't know, I seem to play better at 24 tables then say at 8 or so as when playing so few I feel like my attention fades (quite a NIT) and often make unnecessary plays for the sake of just playing. But yeah I was wondering if going up to 5nl with now 42bi is enough, as the 5bi loss i suffered felt like quite a big dent in my roll. I'm just a bit of a coward as I never really want to have to redeposit again. Or if I played some 5nl tonight, if loosing at what stage stage should I look to quit and move back down? Perhaps just stopping my shot to a small 5bi loss was too soon for me to have gone back?

Sounds like you are crushing 2NL which is good.

My advice, drop to 4 tables with 5NL and play that for a while. Your goal isn't so much to win as it is to hone your skills and dial the game in. Once you feel you've got the game dialed in and have improved your skill level, then increase the number of tables working your way back to 24 tables.

Lastly, I'm a live grinder and haven't grinding online seriously in years, so take my advice with a grain of salt and if an online specialist disagrees, then I'd listen to them over me...

Thanks for feedback, I'll play a few 5nl tables tonight and see how i run over a few thousand hands. hopefully all goes well and I can feel I can stick to playing it and then won't have same worries when looking to move forward to 10nl.

Being a loose cannon i just jumped into 21 tables of 5nl to test the waters, only played for an hour and a half with 2,590 hands, bb/100=6.05, however i felt like i was unlucky, as had a average all in equity of 78.02% and got sucked out on a few times for 60bb+, usually my all in equity is around 60% so maybe I was actually lucky getting on tables with such fish.

2nl and 5nl are the same really..

At $200.. Fire up 5nl and don't think about it...

U won't see a skill bump til 25nl
