I have struggled with the same problem of patience during online play.

1. There are no hot cocktail waitresses to keep you 'alert' (ya leaving that one in)
2. When do you something stupid there are no other players to call you an idiot (maybe you should get a virtual phil hellmuth doll)
3. When your home you are 'comfortable' and relaxed.
4. There are other things to focus on. kids, wife, tv, food

There are a lot of other factors I'm sure but I'm getting better now that I've realized I have ADD.

The best I have done in an online tourney is when I'm playing on the laptop in the car on the way to an event. Yes its hard to drive at the same time but I managed.

Tilt is the reason a good chunk of players aren't profitable. Your options are work on your tilt issues or log off when you feel it coming.

It sounds like you are playing multitable tournaments? Maybe try SNGs or cash games and learn how to play multiple tables at once.

If you get bored that easily then maybe you just don't enjoy playing poker. If that is the case then why do you play?

I forget who coined the phrase 'Poker is a game that goes on inside you' but whoever they were they were right on the money.

I think everybody struggles with this problem to one degree or another. I know I do. The strategy that I use to fight it is pretty simple though:

I have my starting ranges by position clear in my head and I stick to them. When I start violating them I take a break (preferably for the rest of the day). Poker has a lot to do with self-discipline and when that starts to slide so do my winnings.

The other thing that works for me is to play online for short shifts of 1/2 to 1 hour and then go do something else and give myself a break, then come back. I find it's easier for me to play consistent poker this way.

EV = expected value, so +EV means that you are expecting your play to show positive results. To take a basic example, if there is $9 in the pot and you call a $1 bet to draw to a flush, 1 time out of 5 you will hit the flush and win $10, and 4 times out of 5 you will miss and lose $1. Since the amount you win is greater than the amount you lose, your call is said to be +EV. Specifically, the expected value is the average win [$10 for a win -$4 for your 4 losses]/5 (4 losses+1 win) = $1.20. So you could say that the expected value of a call is +$1.20. Since poker is a game of imperfect information (you don't know your opponents cards), it is hard to calculate EV precisely, but people generally talk in terms of +EV play being plays that tend to be profitable in the long run and -EV play as plays that don't.
