Hello everyone,

If you had access to a magical little button to hit reset on your poker career, however you can take one thing you've learnt with you back to the start, what would that be?

For me, it would be to practice proper bankroll management. I lose count of how many times I have gone bust over the years meaning no poker for the rest of the month until I can reload..

What do you think the most valuable skill you have acquired over the years would increase your profits from day 1?

It's a boring game, don't play it, learn PLO instead

I assume bankroll management has to be #1 for everyone. Also, calling big bets on the river at $1/$2. The chance anyone is bluffing is damn near zero. I learned the hard way on both of these in my early 20s. Now I have a plan every session and I do not deviate.

It's about 100x harder than you think it is.
Variance is brutal.

How do you deal with large river bets now then Siberian?

I share your pain, I definitely over call here.

Not directly related to NLHE but, No matter how good you are, you’re never as good as you think you are. So if you want to stay on top of the game you can never stop studying. Ive been playing 17 years (no significant breaks) and still feel like there’s a lot I can learn.

when analyzing/reviewing hands, focus on the ones you won, not the one you lost. Beginning players tend to err on the side of weak-tight, which means that they are statistically making more errors in hands they won, and yet most people ten to only review/care about hands they lost

It's OK to walk away/cash out after a heater or when you feel 'satisfied' for the session.

Yes, there's a difference between a cash-n-dash and 'calling it a night'.

Never feel obligated to 'keep the game going' or play a certain timed session because 'that's what I always do'. (There are slightly different 'rules' if you play a home game)

This is basically recognizing your own self if you play differently with profit or if the table dynamic changes. It's OK to cut things short and go for a walk in the park. GL

There are 2 ways to make more money at the end of the night.

Win more, and also lose less.

I think the one thing I wish I had fully understood about poker is that other people are NOT you. They haven't read the same books, watched the same videos, played the same amount, etc. as you have. Just because you might never 4-bet shove with pocket 3s doesn't mean they won't. Just because you would never call a raise, out of position, with Q2 offsuit doesn't mean that they won't. Just because you wouldn't c-bet with air on a scary board into a 5-way flop, doesn't mean they won't.

You may have a calling range, or a raising range or a 3-bet or 4-bet range, but those ranges might be completely different for a lot of your opponents (especially live). I've seen someone open for 20bb, and after everyone folded show A8 off - not as a bluff, but to demonstrate that she really had a strong hand.

Never fall into the trap of thinking "they can't have X because if they did they would have done Y". The fact is, they can have X, and they wouldn't necessarily do anything the same way you would have.

Rake may seem like only a trace amount on the surface but in actuality it’s a beast that is almost not possible to keep pace with

So true. Terrible feeling playing live (low volume) and getting it in all-in multi way with Aces and losing a big pot putting you in the red.

Trying to explain to my wife that I got "Sklansky dollars" getting it in with EV+ but in the end I still lost a big ass pot.

GTO preflop ranges and the correct postflop sizings and frequencies. Sorry, that might be two (three?) things.
