My Stack 1160
Sirwilliame's stack 4000 or something.

Im in late position everyone folds round to me, 300 BB and 150 SB.

I hold Q J so push in for 900

SB folds

BB (sir) goes to 1160

I chip in the rest of my pot, thinking that he is just trying to get rid of me whilst keeping his blind if i were bluffing.

??

I am assuming this is a tournament. You have less than 4 BB left, and it folds around to you on the button. You should be elated that a) it folded around to you, and b) you have a hand as good as QJo. You should be pushing all-in with ATC here. If you steal the blinds, great. If the BB wakes up with a hand and beats you, then it's just not your tourney, and better luck next time.

Your stack isn't big enough here to do anything but push all-in.

Right. Except you should have gone all-in instead of just betting 900. You're pot committed anyways.

If you're interested in learning how to play tournaments, a must read is the Harrington on Hold 'em series. Volume 2 has an entire section devoted almost exclusively to understanding and playing in these situations.

Did everything right but shove AI preflop. Why only 900?

not sure why i didnt shove all in, but in this case it wouldnt have made a differance as an extra 200 would not have bothered this guy when he paid for bb and had QQ.

Exactly why you shove all in, since it's not going to matter anyway. You can't likely continue with only 200 chips, so you might as well throw them all in here as well. It may just give you the extra "fold equity" you need in case he doesn't actually have a hand. The odds (in the long run) of him having a hand that beats QJo in this situation are heavily in your favor.

Absolutely agree and think it was just a slip of the mind, to be honest.

Poker is very time consuming without much benefit at lower levels!

Depends on what you call benefit. If you're talking just $ here, then yes, I agree. But the game of NLHE is so intricate that just learning the nuances of the game itself is enjoyable, even if you don't make money in the short term. Learn it right and appreciate the complexity of the game, and the money will come. Just being able to play poker online and learn a great game is worth the $50 you deposited. Just think how much better it will be when you actually start winning and making money.

Its like today played five tournys at $1 and placed twice which is pretty good id think, im up $6 which is £3ish back here, yet i spent 4 good solid hours playing! £3 for 4 hours is worse than Mcdonalds, and its only the next two weeks that i have that kind of time on my hand then i start my new job.

vry true but ur shouldnt be seeing playing this stakes as trying to make a living. at these levels it is mainly about learning the game as Doublez says and then hopefully u will build a bankroll from there. cashing like u did isn't bad at all especially for a new player so dont b downhearted coz it's only £3 that u won- be glad u won anything at all. keep building ur BR, might take a couple months or a couple years but if u stick with it, it will be very enjoyable. im working my way up now, have been doin it for sometime and am playing .25/.5 and i remember a year ago that it looked so far away. its been a gd year and a half tho!
