I'll supply the port, you guys bring the cheese, we can have a BQ old mans party.

If the beverage you are set on bringing is port, I'd prefer you just bring more brie. In general, not a red wine fan.
04-05-2014 , 04:21 AM
In that case you're not invited :P

Since it's an old mans party someone who knows more about the subject can bring the whisky for those with poor taste who don't like port.
04-05-2014 , 04:56 AM
Well, I could bring whiskey .... though it seems I was recently uninvited.

If you bring whisky, you're invited.

Sounds like you have cloned the partition without the OS. What software did you use to do this ?

Ah, well who can turn down whiskey (ignore the obvious scenarios). Though I think I'm about to sign off (though I'm only drinking crap beer right now .... and enjoying it).

Used the Samsung clone software that came with it.

When I attach it with USB it appears everything is there as per the HDD incl a drive (partition?) that has boot files in it

I cloned my laptop hdd->samsung ssd a couple of years back, and it was fine. TBH, I can't recall if I used samsung's migration tool or ghost.

I would contact samsung support and ask them, failing that try with a 3rd party piece of migration software.

^thanks for the advice.

After spending most of the morning scouring the internet I tried using EaseUS backup tool as recommended at a couple of places. Cloned the drive in the same way as the Samsung software, but it worked this time!

Shiny new SSD installed and optimized. It's like putting a turbo on the back of a bicycle

Edit: Was also slightly funny/annoying that the Crucial USB dock that I bought to do the cloning with came with a cloning software CD (Acronis True Image) and the CD was empty!! Just figured it wasn't meant to be at one point...

Upgrade for sure. Samsung 840 or 840 Evo are really awesome.

The SSD I installed in my lappy was the 840 Pro 256GB. Very pleased with the results.

Is it going to affect the operation of an SSD if I use a standard hard drive for music at the same time?
04-06-2014 , 07:03 AM
Nah. I got a 250 gig ssd and a 3T hdd. My OS still boots up in like 10 seconds

I just built a pc early December so this still is still pretty fresh in my head. I had it optimized for HM2/analyzing population tendencies. Can't really do it though cuz Bovada HH lulz

Crossed something off my cullinary todo list today: had a divinely inspired thought a while back to create what I call a Super Mac. It's a Big Mac but with the beef patties subbed out for two quarter pounder patties. Was not disappoint.
