him: bet 3bb

me: call

flop 958

check, check

turn A

him: bet 9xbb

me: call

turn 958A10

him: bet 10xbb

me: raise 20x bb

him: fold (show one card A)

me: wins hand (show two cards 57)

i know I cannot make many bluffs after a hand like that, but why did I do that? I don't even understand my own thought process other than, "eh at least i look like I have JQ."

I just play the way i feel like playing.

Some players show bluffs because it gives their ego a boost. Leave your ego at home when you play.

okay i'll keep that in mind thanks. but I'm more concerned about the fact i played the hand itself on such a slim chance that he'd fold.

Self-control in poker is a massively underrated personality skill. Start thinking deeply about each decision and outcome and self-control will come naturally, at least in the sense that you're asking about here.

Did you call the turn planning to bluff the river or did you can the turn planning to suck out on the river and bluffed as a Plan B when you didn't get there?

Did you have a reason for bluffing? Did you detect weakness, perhaps unconsciously? Did you just decide you can't win without bluffing so you just had to bluff?
