I just opened an online poker account and started playing in very low limit, winner take all, 3-way sit and go’s.
I realized I need to educate myself and improve my play so I joined this forum. I have a specific hand review where I’d appreciate as much of an education as someone is willing to offer.
Low stakes, 3 person tournament. 10-20 blinds and we all stared with 500 each.
The very first hand, I got Pocket 2s in the small blind.
Dealer folded.
I made it 80 and BB called.
Flop: 4, 6, J rainbow.
I bet the pot, (160) and was called.
Turn: 8
I went all in and was called.
My opponent had JQ off, and the River helped no one - he knocked me out.
Looking back I played this hand wrong and likely in more ways than I realize. Can someone tell me how they would have played this hand? Please break down my play and critique it as much as you’d like.
Should I have gone a All-In preflop (I had a friend suggest I should have done this)….why or why not go all in?
Again, I’m looking for an education so any information provided will be welcomed.
So here is a question for you, OP. When you bet full pot on the flop, with 3 cards higher than your 2s, and he calls, what did you think he might have? Did you think your 2s were good?
A better line might be to raise to 50 preflop. Bet small on the flop, and then give up if he calls or raises. By betting as large as you did, both preflop and on the flop, you are pretty much killing your chance to win the tournament. In this format, any pair is likely to call on the flop, and with 480 in the pot and only 260 behind, they are never folding the turn.
Any pocket pair Blind v Blind in that format is probably a shove. While 22 is vulnerable you will get called by QJ type of hands and be a slight favorite. GL
