How to play A-K How to play A-K

I understand that there are just to many different scenario's to truly answer this question but I still hope that some can just run the basic's or maybe even give some different ways you may have or better yet like to play A-K

I guess the real issue I have is playing in the $3/$6 NLH ring game at Mohegan Sun Casino witch I'm a regular in so I will use this for best scenario.. Whenever I seem to look down and see A-Ks or off whether it be UTG or BB in a limp pot I feel lost n no clue what to do if this makes any since? I will explain a little what I always seem to do and that is again whether it be UTG or BB in a limp pot i will limp also if there is a pretty strong raise pre-flop and I have nothing in the pot or even If limp I will say 60% of the time I fold and if I am in a pot and I completely miss the flop I shut it down check/fold don't ask why but there is something about this hand.

I of course raised pre-flop with this hand plenty of times and that is where the different scenario's come into play. But I personally believe that this hand is more of a tourney hand and would much rather play J-10s witch I believe is the best starting hand in NLH but that is a whole other topic.. So if anyone can just maybe take a few minutes and explain a few strategy's in playing
A-K
Thank u
Also after having to move my thread due to being in the wrong section I honestly believe that this section is best suited I hope? lol

Where did you move it from? I'd say it's probably best suited for either

It seems like you are new to poker (or I'm getting trolled). Standard beginner's strategy: In general, you should play a style that is tight/aggressive. That means, be selective with the hands you decide to play, but play the few you play by putting in bets and raises (not just calling/limping). AK definitely falls into the type of hands a tight/aggressive player should be playing. So raise preflop, whether there are no limpers ahead, some limpers, or even a bettor or two. And no little baby raises, put in something that actually puts your opponent to an interesting decision, and whittles the field down to 1 or 2 callers. (As you get better, there are times you will want to play AK more passively, but that is a more advanced concept. For now, just play it fast.)

On the flop, you should continue by betting again. While you will usually miss the flop (probably about 2/3 of the time), so will your opponent, and you want to win the pots that they miss the flop. If you made a good raise preflop, you shouldn't have a lot of people trying for the flop, so the odds someone hit something will be reduced. (Continuation betting the flop after you raised preflop is something you should make a habit of, with AK or otherwise.)

If you get called on the flop, and you haven't hit anything, then you can go ahead and check/fold if you need to. But if you played the first two streets properly, you shouldn't get here very often unless your opponent has a real hand.

one of the basics though that i read is bluffing with low cards on the flop.. say flop is 579rainbow..
i would rather check/fold with AK here specially with 3 or more villains..
if the flop is 57Q, in this case, i would c-bet

Many years ago, before Pokerstove or even 'Super System' existed, many professionals truly thought JTs was a stronger hand than AA.

I used to love playing JTs myself... until I got HEM. It's my biggest loser of all.

The reason they thought this was because a journalist wrote that TJ was the best hand in poker. He didnt know what he was talking about but the "wisdom" persisted.

Well JTs can make more nut straights than any other hand but, as modern players know because of all the stats available, straights don't win pots as often as top pair does. JT is so easily dominated that it's a horrible hand to have when you make top pair. I guess the basic advice would be to play it for its draw potential, but don't put much money in the pot if you make a pair, but have no draw.
AK on the other hand is played for its top pair potential, as well as for generating fold equity. In many situations, you should play AK just like you would play AA or KK, at least until you've seen the flop.

Is this a 2p2 expression, or were straights ever ranked higher than flushes?

Maybe try asking more specific questions, like when do you raise vs call preflop with AK, or what are good flops to continuation bet AK with. Or use the search bar for these topics. Unspecific questions get unspecific answers.
