How to get out of a bad loosing streak? How to get out of a bad loosing streak?

Hello everyone! I am fairly new to poker and I have been playing more often recently. I usually play 3-4 times a week. I started out great until the past 3 weeks. Before the past three weeks my earnings was 235 and I lost 140. Now ever since then I havent won any money and have lost 50 dollars(making it 235 up and 190 down). I play with friends and we usually buy in with 10 dollars. I have also tried to play online and Did not do much differently.

The last time I won money, I was playing and drinking and did great(bought in with 10 and left with 50). I dont know if it was because I was drinking but if thats the reason, I refuse to depend on drinking to be good at poker. I usually start out good but end up getting caught up in post flop and turn raises. What I would like to know is if anyone has had a loosing streak and if anyone has any advice on how to get out of this bad loosing streak. Thanks in advance guys.

Read books published by 2+2. Harrington on Cash Games and Sklansky/Miller No Limit Theory and practice are great. Probably should check out Getting Started in Hold Em by Ed Miller also.

if your a proven winning player, your in a funk and a break can fix it nicely for you to get out of it, good time to re-evaluate your game and plug some leaks.

sounds like to me though you were just running hot one day, and variance has since caught up with you.

You are prolly doing something wrong chips. Take a long look over your game and be honest with yourself. You can tell us it was all bad luck, but don't lie to yourself. GL

Post hands and get some advice (hopefully good advice).

but I agree with Never Win, be honest with yourself. Take the game serious, but no so serious you think of quitting when you go on down swings. Everybody gets them. When I get into a funk and think I am the only player losing money, how can this only happen to me, top players don't struggle with what I struggle through, I go to pokertableratings and see the top pros that have lost a hell of a lot more than I have, I feel better.

Watch some deucescracked videos. (Or other training videos).

But overall, play more hands. Then when you think you've played enough to give yourself an adequate evaluation, take that hand count and play twice as that.

Post questionable hands here. also look thorugh every post you can find Here and Here

remember only apply a few things at a time. Try one or two things till you get the hang of it and move on to something else.

Read more poker books, watch more training videos..... if you're using proper BR management then play more hands... you'll overcome the variance if you are properly trained

with this attitude you might as well quit IMO. You aren't gonna get good at poker just like that. How many books have you read in less than two months? How much of that have you actually comprehended and put to the test and implemented it in your game?

Remember playing online, playing your friends, and playing at cardrooms are all different and require different strategies. You need to get hands more hands in and be patient.

When I started reading poker books after playing over 20k plus hands on facebook poker, lol, I read the holy grail of course super/system by Doyle Brunson. I read books on odds and books on theory. I read gus hansens' every hand revealed which was an awesome read. But probably the best book I have read was Mike Caro's Most Profitable Hold Em Advice.

Check it out you will look at poker in an entirely different way, for sure.

You have to have a passion for the game itself not just winning money. Money shouldn't be the reason you are playing while you are learning because it will distract you from becoming a better player.

If you want to get out of a losing streak you need to realize that everyone gets card dead. It happens and thats the reality of playing a game with cards. You get hot, you get cold it doesn't last forever. Just keep reading up and play more and more. Play everyday if you can, play online, get a deck of cards and play with yourself. Make yourself an expert by putting in the time and the effort and you will get to where you want to be. Be patient, its ALL about patience.

so relax, take a breath, and take advantage of this amazing forum and the knowledge contained within. good luck

I don't know how useful a lot of the strategies from the more advanced coaching videos would be in a $10 home game beerfest, but I'd guess that applying them in the wrong spots would likely end up costing you more money.

A better understanding of general poker concepts will always help and you should definitely read up as others have suggested. If you're playing with the same people in this game all the time you have a considerable advantage in you can develop a really solid idea of what types of hands they play and how they play them.

Focus on exploiting the very worst players at the table as this will be your best source of money, and if there are any players in this game you consider tough, try to stay out of their way when you have hands you are unsure about.
