How does a game work with a shuffling machine? How does a game work with a shuffling machine?

Hi Guys,

I've just joined the forums, fairly new to Poker/Holdem so this is probably gonna be a VERY beginner question

I have seen most card shufflers are 2,4,6 or more deck. So lets say you have a 2 deck shuffler and a freak event happens where you get 5 Kings after the River (purely hypothetical).

Does Poker/Holdem allow you to play with duplicate cards like this?

Cheers!

Robert's rules says:

4. If two cards of the same rank and suit are found, all action is void, and all chips in the pot are returned to the players who wagered them (subject to next rule).

5. A player who knows the deck is defective has an obligation to point this out. If such a player instead tries to win a pot by taking aggressive action (trying for a freeroll), the player may lose the right to a refund, and the chips may be required to stay in the pot for the next deal.

You're mixing up poker and blackjack. They're two completely different games. Poker uses only one deck and is reshuffled after every hand. Blackjack uses multiple decks and is reshuffled after several hands.

Ok, I may have misread your post (leaving my reply in case). Poker auto-shufflers use one or two decks. If two, they're shuffled seperately and have different coloured backs to help prevent accidental mixing. Shufflers will also verify that a deck contains 52 cards.

Fowled decks do still happen sometimes, just as they do with hand shuffling.

Hi AlienSpaceBat and Cry Me A River, thanks for your replies! That was my thought exactly, it made more sense to use a multi-deck shuffler with Black Jack and if it is to be used with Poker, then only 1 deck should be used.

It would make an interesting game with more decks actually. Since with one deck if you pick up aces you kind of criple anyone from having a good Ax, with 4 decks you're more likely to get action even though the odds of getting a particular hand stay the same.

Relative hand values would change a ton and new rules would have to be written (for 5 of a kind).

Or you could deal players 4 cards instead of two, greatly increasing your chances of making strong hands. To keep things sane you would probably want to restrict players to having to use exactly two of their four cards and make it pot limit rather than no limit. A good name for this game would be Pot Limit Degenaha.

I've never seen a multi-deck shuffler at a poker table. Is this a real thing?

Usually two decks in play, while the current hand is played out the machine shuffles the next deck.

Also I'm down for some Degenaha
