How did you get consistent with small stakes MTTs? How did you get consistent with small stakes MTTs?

Hello,

I play small stakes MTTs ($10 to $20 buyins. Usually 30 to 80 players) I do okay and make final table usually at least once a day, but the results aren't super consistent yet and I was wondering on how you or anyone you know has really gotten good as these to start to get decently consistent profits (not ever tourno of course, but maybe like 33% In The Money.)

Was there a specific book? Did you work on your range, or maybe a certain play style? LAG, TAG, etc.

Thank you.

I got into poker through Home games. Tourneys on Thursday nights. 30 bucks first game. 10 or 20 for additional games. Did that for a period and read sklanskys theory of poker, some psychology stuff, and a limit holdem book that I bought by mistake lol. Thats how I got into micro limit holdem.

Never read a tourney book, but I had long since developed a decent sense of how the number of opponents and their tendencies affect preflop selection when I started putting in lots of time in online tourneys around 2015. Most of the gtds I played covered 10 to 20 buyins, and I ran hot in the portion of tourneys that covered 20 to 100 buyins. If theres No gtd, you should be very sure that you have a significant edge to play, where a gtd that isnt always met provides cushion for weaker players.

Different people process games differently. Strategic adjustments are more easily implemented for some, while others struggle to even comprehend that what they're doing is losing money in the long run. In today's game we must be open to the idea that we dont play perfect poker. Many others already showed us how to fail. I suspect many of them thought they were quite good at poker, and many losers denied that they sucked to a bitter end.

Even experts misplay hands. Be honest with yourself. This is the path to improvement.

When in doubt, keep it simple. The vast majority of poker decisions are obvious given a bit of preparation. Get the obvious decisions right. Study why the hard spots were hard for you. If someday you realize oh I played all day and didnt get confused nor stressed about a single decision, a bit of mindfulness is in order. Look back and remember when the game seemed mysterious and complicated. Thats a big if. Until then, strive to continuously learn, adapt, and improve.

Thanks, I appreciate your advice! I just did a mtt just not but busted out hero QQ vs villian AK, and I got some spots I'm looking at right now from the tournament.

Slowly but surely improving.

MTTs have more variance than cash games.
