Hi all!

Even tho this is my first post, i've been reading 2+2 for a while!

Before anything i would like to clarify that i really did a lot of search but as i'm still a bit confused about what to do i think it won't hurt to ask some very naive questions to the most experienced players.

Well, here we go:

1 - Do you guys think that it's possible for someone with like U$ 50 to build a Bankroll playing on PokerStars Satellites to be able to get in higher buy in tourneys? Or is it too risky?

Consider that i know the basics concepts (Position, Pot Odds, range of hands, the MTT phases and how should i behave on most of them) and that i've mostly learned how to play reading 2+2 posts and FAQ's and Dan Harrington's book.

2 - If you think it's possible, wich satellites (on PokerStars) would you recommend?

3 - If it's not how would you build a bigger bankroll with U$ 50? And what about U$ 100?

4 - Every good regular use PokerStove software? Or do you guys know any regular that only use HUD's to improve his game and do the entire hand decision making process on his own?

Thanks in advance and sorry if i said something really stupid!

Avoid satellites for building a bankroll, if anything you would be better off grinding multi table sit n goes to build a starting bankroll. Maybe like $1 180's? I don't play on stars but a lot of people say the 180s on stars are really soft. Shaun deeb has a post in the MTT forum, in the anthology stickies that talks about beating them. Pokerstove is 100% necessary!

Thanks Nerdrage for you advice!

I'm giving up on the satellites then. Unfortunatelly Stars have no $1 180's, just $2. There are $1 Turbo 90 Players, do you think they should be good to try?

I'm gonna read the guide you told me about for sure anyway!

And i've just downloaded PokerStove and i'm messing around with it.
I've just found this Guide on PokerStove and i'm reading it too!

Thanks again!

I can't play on stars, so I don't even have it downloaded lol. So hopefully someone else can help you out. I would assume that the $1 rake is ridiculous though. So you might be better off to start with $100 at the $2 180s. But it sound's like you want to focus more on MTT or sit-n-goes right now. Maybe start at $2 6max or 9max sit n goes to reduce variance until you hit like $230 or so and switch to the 180s.

I'm not sure how much experience you have, but pokerstove might still be a little advanced. It took me like ~5 months before I realized I was finally ready for pokerstove. It's not worth it if you can't put people on accurate ranges.

Well, i have a bit of experience (i'm not entirely new to the game) but seems to me that to put pokerstove to good use i need to have a good knowledge of Poker Tracker and use other players stats to put them on a range, rather than base their range on my analysys (wich only takes into consideration if they are TAG's, LAG's, TP or LP, their position, and stack and blind sizes). I know i do things in a very basic way, but well, that's why i'm learning!

I'm starting to use PokerTracker too, hopefully i don't take too long to understand how to use it and pokerstove.

Thanks a lot again, i'm really happy that someone is answering those naive questions with such kindness!

And about the games, i think i'll be playing those 6 or 9 man sit-n-goes to reduce variance as you suggested. I love mtt's but as my bankroll isn't so big i think it's better to be safe than sorry right? =P

Cheers!

PT3 will help narrow ranges somewhat, but experience will definitely help you more than PT3. Also, if you just have the trial of PT3, I would recommend checking out HEM. I play MTT's and HU SNG's, and I've had lots of trouble importing with PT3, and it doesn't have an EV option for tournaments and sit-n-goes, even though I'm not exactly sure how it works with HEM. It would be nice to have.

I'll be looking at HEM (I assume you are talking about Hold'em Manager right?).

I did have a bit of trouble to deal with importing at first but it's all good now i think =P

It was a bit tricky since PokerStars wasn't saving my hand history but when i got it to save it PT3 started to work fine!

I'll look at HEM anyway!

Thanks again

If you`re just starting out, I think that 9man SNGs would be the best for building a bankroll with 50$-100$. Always make sure you have at least 50 buyins for the stakes you`re playing at. Also, to speed things up, start adding more tables when you think you can manage them at the same time. First, play 2 SNGs at a time, then 3, 4 and then as many as you can handle at one time.
Read this first, and then slowly go through the stickies here. Good luck
