I called Virgin yesterday and they explained that there is "work in my area" and I'm likely to experience "patchy and slow connections" and that the work should end "sometime before the end of next week, hopefully".

I think this is just what they tell people when they complain about their connection (I've heard it before a few times), and I don't for one moment think they are telling the truth.

My experience of Virgin Media is that they're usually lying. So I usually take the exact opposite of everything they say.

But I'm also in NE London, not far from Ilford, so maybe there's something to it. Incidentally my connection was much better last night, but today it's back to dropping packets like a well-greased stevedore.

If they actually said "it's high usage on my local exchange, and we're looking to do something, it might take a month or two, here's the ticket number to keep a track on it" I would probably leave it alone.

But it's the "high usage, meh" response that winds me up. My house spends ~£200pm on Virgin stuff, so I want better than that.
