Alright I am following his rules, but I have a question lets say your following the 5% of you bankroll for your buy-in and that equals something like $2.12 would you play the 5nl with 40bb and or just buy in for full-amount at 2nl.

Buying in short doesn't lower variance. Buy in full at 2NL until you are rolled for 5NL using whatever BRM you choose. Also you will improve faster playing with 100bbs

200bb deep is even better in some situations (spewmonkey with big stack at the table etc.)
