Ok so this is another subject I have just started to grasp.

This is what I think and would love for someone to correct me if I am wrong.

I work my opponents range out, then work out my actual equity (hand equity+fold equity).

Then I work out how much the opponent + the pot is and how much I win by calling on a draw and how much I lose by calling on a draw. Then I work out the difference between the 2 and that figure is how much I need to extract just to break even. Therefore I know how much I should bet to make the play +EV.

So if im 20% against or 4 to 1 and my opponent bets 3/4 of a pot, for eg. sake lets say $0.3 into $0.4, it means if I call I will lose $1.2 in the long run, but also make the $0.3 + $0.4, 1 out of 5 times, in the long run. Knowing this I can see that by calling and losing this many times and only completing my hand once in 5 attempts, I am losing $0.50 over time. Knowing this also dictates the fact that I must extract $0.51 when I actually make the hand for my call to +EV.

Is this correct?

Any help is extremely welcome.

Thx

Uhhh, yeah - seems right. consider though, regardless what you have, the game continues until one person is all in or the river is played.

Also, the value of your cards is not the same as your equity in a pot.

Lookup stuff like:

sklansky bucks.

g bucks. (phil galfond)

so u mean that EV only applies if one of these things happens? wee bit confused by this statement, probly easy but could you perhaps rephrase it?

It is difficult to work out ev effectively and mathematically like so with streets left to play as holdem is a complex game.

Check out some baluga whale posts about value in addition to above if you can.
